I love the #Durham yoga community, y'all. I've met so many interesting people recently, and it's largely all because of the triangle #yoga community. I am so happy to see so many different colors and shapes in my classes, and so many of my fellow teachers are starting up new projects and events around town. Next week is the last week to practice w/ me at my local classes until July- I'll be in #NYC essentially until the end of the month. If you're in the #NCTriangle, check out my facebook page or website (both links are in my instagram header) for more details about my weekly teaching schedule. I'm especially lovin' my Tuesday noon class at @Durhamyoga- the space is freaking gorgeous, and I've been blessed to meet new and awesome people every week. By the way, I was thinking about teaching a last minute drop-in yoga class while I'm in New York…..is that even a thing? Is there a studio in town willing to let a gypsy yoga teacher slide in a quick hour flow for a few students? And if you live and practice in #NYC, would you come out to a last minute body positive vinyasa style class taught by yours truly? #Pinchamayurasana practice at @durhamyoga after my Tuesday class- I just can't get enough of #forearmstand, y'all. It's my predator, my master, my driving inspiration- I can't get enough. Leggings- @forever21

So….I haven't really felt like posting anything recently. I just….can't, you know? Maybe no one wants to talk about it, but there are more important things going on in the world than yoga. Not like I didn't already know that, but what happened in Charleston has really thrown that shit in the spotlight for me. I just….can't. I mean, a lot of great things are happening right now- I'm busy as shit with work in #NYC and I'm learning more than I can say. I had a great time at @thecurvycon, @fffweek was dope. I wanted to find time to teach a class, but I honestly think it'll be a bit too much this trip. Never fear though, New York- I'll be back for workshops w/ @nolatrees in August (click the link in my instagram for details). But honestly, y'all- right now I'm just reflecting. I think we all need to reflect. Because for real- #blacklivesmatter (Also, if you're in the Durham area and you didn't get the memo, I'm out of town for the next days- my first class back in town will be 6/30 noon flow @durhamyoga!) Today I finally tried @cbquality's #splits program on @trainersvault and, as one would expect from the high priestess of thick fit #yoga girls, it left my hips and hamstrings VERY happy. I'm really excited to keep practicing her sequence and feeling my body open even more- it's very simple but extremely deep delicious stretches. I've had a lot of new developments in my life and my hips are holding all of the associated stress- It was a gift to open into them and release some unnecessary tension. Also, @thechalkboardmag mentioned me in a yoga roundup along with the likes of @gigiyogini, @tarastiles, @mackenzieyoga, and my boo @nolatrees- click the link in the @thechalkboardmag instagram header to check it out! Oh, man- I love these @mamakuka yoga straps, y'all. They make such a difference- today, for instance, they made this reclined #compasspose variation so much more accessible for me. When I began practicing at home, I rarely used prop modifications- I had this weird, masochistic, extremely unhealthy attitude towards props where I considered using them to be a shortcoming. I know I'm not the only person who has felt this way- it's dumb but common. These days, I am often the first person in a yoga classroom to raise my hand when a teacher asks if anyone needs a strap or a block, and there is no shame in my game- sometimes you just need a freaking strap, ok? This pose is kind of a tribute to my forever #wcw @kathrynbudig- she taught an awesome tutorial on @yogaglo that is beyond inspiring in terms of flexibility and humility. If your're a 'glo nerd like me, check out her class "Long, Slow & Deep" to see what I mean. Song is Santigold "Creator".

I spent my morning teaching and practicing #yoga with a beautiful group of my #Durham friends (and friends of friends)- we just set up shop in a park and turned nature into a yoga studio. It was awesome and inspiring and all the other things you would expect, but it also reminded me that I am so blessed to live in a town where it is (relatively) safe to set up a body positive yoga space. My friends and I don't have to hide our bodies. This is not the case for everyone in my global #yogafamily, & I feel grateful that my greatest concern isn't the safety of my students. I plan to continue teaching a weekly outdoor PWYC yoga class in Durham- if you're local and interested in coming, follow my facebook page for details (link is in my instagram header). I am so excited to live in a community that is hungry for diversity in yoga and that's so fucking ready to cultivate a community to match its residents desires. ALSO, I am extremely honored to be featured on this week's 'Feministing Five'- I've been a big fan of Feministing for years, and I'm always happy to see the body positive yoga movement recognized as a critical component of the 21st century feminist's worldview. BLAH BLAH RHETORIC BLAH BLAH BLAH. Anyway, if you want to read the article written by the awesome @suzbob, click the link in my instagram header! (btw, mad love to @clashist for recognizing that I obviously need a Wayne's World bathing suit in my wardrobe.) #Effyourbeautystandards #honoryourcurves
